About Rebecca J. Leer

Rebecca J. Leer earned a BFA in medical illustration from Rochester Institute of Technology, combining her love of art and biology.

She then furthered her studies at the Art College of San Francisco and launched a career as an editorial illustrator. Her work can be seen in children’s books, magazines, the Franklin Institute Museum, and public and private collections.

In 2001, while happening into the Ridgewood Art Institute in Ridgewood, NJ, she was captivated by the silvery North Light Studio and the paintings of Arthur Maynard and John Phillip Osborne, paintings using the prismatic palette developed by Frank Vincent DuMond. She was hooked. Painting became her focus, and she has not looked back.

Now a signature member of Oil Painters of America, she has won numerous awards from such prestigious organizations as the OPA, Hudson Valley Artists Association, the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, Allied Artists of America and the American Artists Professional League, including four Best in Shows, and gold, silver and bronze medals. She is an instructor at the Ridgewood Art Institute.

Although Leer paints all genres, the ocean calls, and she travels to Maine for rejuvenation through rock and sea.
