Mission:

Del Mano - A Gallery of Fine Comtemporary Craft is committed to present to collectors, museums, educators and the general public, the finest contemporary artists working in craft media, with an emphasis on studio turned and sculptured wood, fiber objects and teapot forms. Through gallery exhibitions, off-site art expositions, printed catalogs and on going documentation, we endeavor to expand the boundaries of contemporary artistic practice and increase the exposure of work in this field.

History:

Del Mano - A Gallery of Fine Contemporary Craft is an online gallery formed to take the place of the brick & mortar del Mano Gallery. The original gallery was founded by Raymond Leier in 1973 as an exhibition space for contemporary craft artists residing in the United States. In 1977, Jan Peters joined Mr, Leier as a partner and collaborator. Over the ensuing years, del Mano widened its representation to include artists from 14 nations around the world, focusing their efforts on the emerging field of contemporary wood art, fiber, art teapots and mixed media. With the passing of Ms. Peters in December of 2011, Mr. Leier decided to close del Mano Gallery's exhibition space and create a new online gallery with the intention of expanding the scope and reach of its offerings.

Ms. Peters and Mr, Leier have authored several books on wood, fiber and glass art. In 2001 they were both honored by the Collectors of Wood Art organization with a "Lifetime Achievement Award" in the field of Wood Art.

Mr, Leier is committed to the tradition that del Mano has established over the past 38 years as the premier destination for fine contemporary craft.
