The Chappel House Art Gallery & Gifts is located in Florissant, Missouri on Washington Street, just north of I-270, across from Dick Weber Bowling Lanes. Specialties include original works by local artists of all ages.

The house was built around 1850, with additions and remodeling done over the years, and was finally purchased by Jean and Gurry Chappel in April 2005 and opened to the public in November 2006 as The Chappel House, just before Thanksgiving after another round of remodeling.

Jean says the idea behind The Chappel House is for local artists to come, showcase and sell their works, as well as meeting other artists and residents.

Over 60 local artists and artisans currently display their work here, with items for sale ranging from paintings, sculptures and photographs to handmade jewelry, quilts, greeting cards, featuring original poetry and other handmade gifts.

Both Jean and Gurry are artists in their own rights. Gurry has several of his photographs exhibited at the house, and Jean has some knitted items. Jean also teaches knitting classes at the house.

Jean has been working in scientific research for over 30 years, most of which has been with Barnes Jewish Hospital / Washington University Medical School. Her attention to detail also shines through in the care she gives to The Chappel House and its featured artists.

Both Jean and Gurry thrive on the relationships they’ve been able to build in their community and especially the friendships they’ve made through The Chappel House. The artists at the gallery are all friends to Jean and Gurry and that friendship is reflected the way their works are displayed at the gallery.
