History:

Imagine two sisters living for nearly 100 years in the same home, supporting themselves selling minnows & worms, and seeing their hometown, deep in the Northwoods, go from the boom of the lumber years-- to ghost town-- to remote, rustic fishing community.

The lumber mill and all but one of the original houses are gone now but Star Lake stands today much as it did 80+ years ago. We have one store, the original schoolhouse, one bait shop, 2 resorts, one restaurant, and a bar. The only exception--the Fredrickson Minnow Shack is now closed for business and Edith & Hazel Fredickson have left us--but not in spirit.

The Fredrickson's-- or "the girls" as they were called, taught us much. They lived a warm & simple life-- never complaining nor wanting for more. They left us all with a sincere appreciation for our Northwood's haven. Life is simple. Life is good.

The Girls will be missed-- but now, through our memories and the "Friends of the Fredricksons Foundation," we hope to capture their spirit by commemorating them and embracing our Star Lake history by restoring the Bait Shop, the Girls turn of the century home and Star Lake School House museums.
